Privacy Policy
Sunflower collects nothing about you, sends nothing anywhere, and has no servers to send it to. Everything it reads about your disk stays on your Mac. This website is a separate thing and does count its visitors; there is a section below saying how.
What Sunflower reads
To draw a map of your storage, Sunflower walks the disk you chose and reads the name, size and modification date of the files and folders on it. It does not open files or read their contents.
A file stored only in iCloud takes no space on your Mac. Sunflower counts it as zero and leaves it where it is, rather than downloading it in order to measure it.
What Sunflower stores, and where
All of it is on your own Mac, and none of it leaves:
- The most recent completed scan, as a single file at
~/Library/Application Support/Sunflower/last-scan.snflsnap. It holds the folder names and sizes the scan found, so reopening the app shows your disk without scanning again. Only the newest scan is kept, and each one replaces the last. - Your settings, in the standard macOS preferences for the app: which appearance you picked, how you want the disk drawn, and whether scanning should start when the app opens.
You can delete the saved scan at any time in Settings, under Forget saved scan. Deleting the app removes both.
What Sunflower sends
Nothing. Sunflower makes no network connections. There is no account to create, no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry of any kind, and no third party receives anything about you or your files. The app has no code in it that could do any of those things.
Two buttons open something outside the app when you press them: one opens System Settings so you can grant Full Disk Access, and the About window links to the developer's website. Both act only when you click them, and neither carries information about you.
Full Disk Access
macOS keeps some folders behind a permission called Full Disk Access: Mail, Time Machine backups, other users' files. Granting it lets Sunflower measure those folders so the total it reports is the real one. Sunflower never asks the system for this permission on its own, it works without it, and without it the app simply tells you how much it could not account for.
Deleting files
When you remove something with Sunflower it goes to the Trash, and it stays there until you empty it. Sunflower does not send a record of what you deleted anywhere, because it does not send anything anywhere.
This website
The app and this website are two different things. This site uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get read. That sets cookies in your browser and sends Google the page you are on, your IP address and a rough location derived from it. Everything advertising-related is switched off: no ad storage, no ad personalisation, and no audience is built out of your visit.
Blocking it costs you nothing here. The site works the same in a private window, with an extension blocking the tag, or with cookies refused. And none of it reaches the app: Sunflower still makes no network connections and still has nothing to report.
Children
Sunflower is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If Sunflower ever starts handling data differently, this page changes first and the date at the top changes with it. Any change that would mean collecting something would be stated here plainly rather than buried.
